Digital Content Strategy, Information Architecture, and Content Development

An interactive content writer needs to think like a content strategist and information architect but be a writer. Being all three of these disciplines at once is nearly impossible, as each requires their own set of skills, knowledge, and training. But understanding the fundamentals and putting them into practice can greatly enhance an interactive project’s content.

Fast Tracking Web Content

Assignment: Help build a content strategy for a site revamp that would better serve its busy, multi-tasking user base.
Challenges: The brand was recognized by name, but not by what it actually did for the customer. The audience needed to learn more about it, but had a far too rushed daily routine to have the time to do so.

Solution: The site would contain a traditional left navigational element that drilled down into more detailed information about the product. But instead of filling the main header space with imagery or callouts, this real estate would offer users a faster way to get information with an interactive feature. This feature provided quick snippets of information that got to the point quickly and allowed the user to move on, or decide to delve deeper into one of the internal pages. The copy was structured in bulleted lists and short sentences for quick scanning and readability.
